a simple simmer pot | no. 08

Living full-time in a 200-300 square foot hotel room means smells happen quickly. Whether it’s garlic and ginger from a home remedy, the kitchen trash at the end of the day, or just the fact that the door has been shut all day, our room tends to acquire a less-than-savory aroma.

Enter autumn and with it, the reminder that a simmer-pot works wonders on mood and the smell of your house.

If you want a natural way to scent your home, create this simple simmer pot with the help of your littles for a therapeutic and calming activity that will leave your home smelling like Christmas.

You’ll need:

  • stainless steel pot

  • water

  • apple skins/core

  • orange peels

  • whole cloves

  • cinnamon stick

  • whole cranberries (optional)

I personally didn’t have cranberries this time around and the house still smelled wonderful! But if you want an extra punch of holiday scent, the cranberries are a lovely touch.

Place all ingredients into the stainless steel pot and fill with water. I used about 3 cups. Turn your burner on low and let simmer with the lid off for a few hours. After removing from the heat, let the pot sit on your counter/stove for the rest of the day. It will continue to release a beautiful smell!

Our hotel room smells festive and not trashy/stuffy, so I’d call that a win.

I hope you have a wonderful day enjoying the Christmas-y aroma in your home that you accomplished with a few simple, natural ingredients.

love, makayla
